Report: Alabama Is Positioning Themselves To Land A Major Big Ten Defensive Player
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Alabama is heading into the 2024 season under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, and many people are counting them out since Nick Saban is no longer their head coach, but the Crimson Tide are ready to prove the doubters wrong.

Caleb Downs Left Alabama This Offseason

The Crimson Tide had one of the best safeties in the country last season in true freshman Caleb Downs, but after one season in Tuscaloosa, he left the program and headed to Ohio State.

Sabn’s retirement played a major role in Downs’s transferring since Saban is one of the best defensive back coaches ever. Downs probably felt like Alabama wasn’t going to be the same without him. Still, the Crimson Tide can add a safety from the Big Ten this time.

Penn State Could See One Of Their Defenders Head To The Crimson Tide

Matt Zenitz from 247sports.com states, “The current plan is for Penn State safety transfer Kig Mack to visit Alabama this weekend.”

Mack entered the portal on Thursday after spending one season in Happy Valley, recording three total tackles in 13 games played.

The Crimson Tide Are Getting Ready For The New SEC

The SEC is changing this season, adding two more teams, Texas and Oklahoma, that will be difficult to play. The Crimson Tide will need as many big-time players as possible to join their team so they can get past these two big new schools coming, and hopefully, for them, they can land Mack to add depth to the secondary.
