The Detroit Tigers are going to play a doubleheader today against the Minnesota Twins. Last night they saw their offense wake up beating the Twins 8-2 as well as getting a solid starting pitching effort from their ace Tarik Skubal who went five innings giving up no runs on two hits; he walked two and struck out five. It was a great comeback after he gave up four runs and two home runs to the Oakland A’s in his last outing. Today in game one Kenta Maeda will get the ball for Detroit going up against Joe Ryan for Minnesota. In game two the Tigers are using the 27th roster spot with it being a doubleheader to call up Matt Manning to oppose Simeon Woods-Richardson for the Twins.

Matt Manning By The Numbers

Manning this spring made five starts going 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts in 16 innings. He would end up starting the season in Triple-A Toledo as the Tigers decided to go with Casey Mize and Reese Olson for the final two spots in the rotation. With Toledo this season he made one start getting the win going five innings giving up one run on three hits; he walked one and struck out seven. He made a start for the Tigers in their last doubleheader going 5.2 no-hit innings; he walked four and struck out three before the Tigers eventually lost to the Mets on a walk-off.

Wrap Up:

The call-up of Manning shows just how loaded the Tigers are with pitching depth as they still have top prospects Ty Madden, Jackson Jobe, Keider Montero, Wilmer Flores, and Brant Hurter pitching in the minors as well as Sawyer Gipson-Long who is dealing with an injury. The Tigers enter play against the Twins today 4-0 against the American League Central.
