LSU Baseball Coach Jay Johnson Talks About Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews on MLB Network
USA TODAY Sports

The LSU Baseball team won the College World Series title this past season by beating the University of Florida in three games.

The Tigers were led by flamethrowing pitcher Paul Skenes and dynamic outfield talent Dylan Crews in their title run, both of who were selected in the first round of the MLB Draft.

Skenes was selected No. 1 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates while Crews was taken No. 2 by the Washington Nationals. They are the first college teammates to ever go 1-2 in the draft.

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson stopped by the MLB Network on Wednesday to discuss both players and the impact they will have at the professional level:

"Paul is the best pitcher that I've seen over one college baseball in my 20-plus years of doing this..."

"These are players that are going to change both of these franchises..."

Skenes is currently the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball. The Pirates just shut him down for the rest of the season, saying they'd seen enough and want to focus on 2024.

Crews is the No. 4 prospect in baseball right now. He's playing at Double-A and is hitting .303 in 27 minor league games. He's got five home runs thus far and 27 RBI.

Skenes is the most exciting Pirates' pitching prospect since Gerrit Cole while Crews is the highest-touted Nationals outfielder since Bryce Harper.

It's conceivable that both players debut in 2024 with their respective clubs, but we'll see how much minor league seasoning each needs first.
