Real Madrid will add Kylian Mbappé this summer to a club that won La Liga this season and have a chance to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy next month. As a result, the league could be turning into a one-team race as FC Barcelona falls behind.

The Catalan side are in a challenging economic state, which is why, to improve the squad, they need to sell and ensure that what is spent hits the ground running to go with the young talent on their squad.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez was asked about Real Madrid’s plans with the looming arrival of the soon-to-be former PSG superstar. The Spanish tactician noted that the team will attempt to compete with Los Blancos, considering the squad their rival intend to have next season.

“We will try to compete,” Xavi told reporters (h/t Le10Sport). “The fans must understand that the economic situation has nothing to do with that of 25 years ago when the coach said I want this one and that one. This is no longer the case today.

“We are not in the situation of other more favored clubs. This does not mean that we are not competitive or that we do not want to fight for titles. We need time.”

Real Madrid isn’t stopping at Mbappé, as rumors suggest that they are also pursuing players like Alphonso Davies and Florian Wirtz, so the gap could be widening soon.
